Town Tops In Derby Win - 17th Aug

Clonmel Town got the better of local rivals Clonmel Celtic 4-2 in the Complex on Tuesday evening thanks to a Barry Ryan hatrick and a goal in the final minutes by Ian Clery. Town had gone a goal behind but fought back to take a 3-1 lead. Celtic did score a second to make it a close finish but Ian Clery broke the offside trap to cooly slot home past to make it 4-2 with minutes remaining and secure Town's first three points of the season. The starting team was R Ryan, N Kelly, A Davis, P Acheson, M Quinlivan, J Shanahan, M Comerford, T Scully, I Cleary, L Whelan, B Ryan with the substitutes J Ryan, S Fagan, E Comerford & S Power.

Managerial Appointment - 15th June

The decision was made last Monday afternoon to appoint Jamie O'Flaherty as manager of the first team for the 2010/11 season. Jamie was a winner of an FAI Junior Cup in 1994 and a Munster Youths Cup as a player with Old Bridge in 1993 and also as manager last season with the Youth team, he has vast coaching experience and is well deserved of his appointment. We wish Jamie all the best for the coming season.

Final Heartache For Town - 6th June

It just wasnt meant to be for Clonmel Town last night in Cahir as they were beaten 2-0 after extra-time, it is now Town's third loss in the final of this competition in the past 6 years, a devastating statistic. After a tremendous first half display of determination and courage they ran Carrick ragged and were unlucky to go in at the break level at 0-0. Carrick came back into the game in the second half and made it quite a contest with chances at a premium. With legs tiring in the first half ofextra time Carrick struck the all important first goal which was a massive blow to Town. As Town pushed forward for the all important equaliser they were caught on the break and conceded a second to end the game as a contest. Hard luck to Martin, Paul, Noel and all the squad.

Fenn Cummins R.I.P. - 3rd June

An irreplaceable part of Clonmel Town FC was lost last Wednesday June 2nd 2010 with the sad news of the death one of the founder members of Clonmel Town FC and our much loved Vice President Fenn Cummins. It was in the kitchen of Fenn Cummins house back in 1963 that agreement was reached to form Clonmel Bohemians. Along with people like Liam Delahunty, Val Butler, Maurice Lynch, Jim Shea, Jimmy Maunsell and other like minded people, Clonmel Bohemians was founded. The contribution that Fenn made to the welfare of not only this football club but to many people in his hometown cannot be overstated. Fenn always put the welfare of others before his own needs. Fenn was the embodiment of that older, better code where you tried to make the lives of your neighbour and your community better. He had a proper understanding of what a sense of community actually meant. Fenn Cummins was never contaminated by the materialism that engulfs so many of those who find prosperity through sport.
The legacy that Fenn has left behind is that not just of one of Ireland’s biggest and most successful football club’s but of man who was so respected and loved by all of those who were lucky enough to have known him. The success and facility’s that we enjoy today would not have come to pass if were not for people like Fenn Cummins. We will all mourn the passing of a great friend, a wonderful individual, a tremendous football man and somebody with passion and knowledge of the game that was unsurpassed. He loved the game of football and loved the football club he help to found. He never at any stage put either at risk.
Fenn Cummins was a true and honest gentleman. He went about his business in a gentle manner; in fact his life was gentle. Five minutes in his company was enough to realise how gentle a man he was. He was one of the founding fathers of this great football club and he will be missed by all of us in Clonmel Town FC. The club would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to his wife Annie and all of the Cummins and Anderson’s families.
Rest in Peace Fenn.

Munster Junior Preview - 30th May

All roads lead to Cahir next Saturday night as we take on neighbours Carrick Utd in the Munster Junior Cup Final in Cahir Park. This should be a fantastic encounter between two clubs who have dominated this competition over the past number of years, it will be Town's 4th final appearence in 7 years. In 2004 both sides met at the same stage with Carrick winning 1-0 after extra time, more amazingly, the Carrick winner that day was scored by Barry Murphy who is now part of the Town panel. We would urge all out fantastic supporters to make the trip out to support the team for one more time this season in search of Munster glory once again. The management will be looking for a massive response from the team following the disappointment in the FAI Junior Cup Semi Final defeat. Best of luck to Martin, Paul, Noel and all the team. Come On The Town!

Both sides have met in major competition stages over the last number of years contesting the 2005 and 2006 Munster Junior Finals so we should have another cracker on the cards, best of luck to Blossom, Paul and all the squad.

Munster Youths Cup Match Report - 25th Apr

There were wild scenes of delight in Turners Cross last Saturday evening as Clonmel Town FC won their first ever Munster Youth Cup title. They went into the game with Cork City as rank outsiders but a determined and spirited display saw them win on a 2-1 score line after extra time. Aidran Cleere's headed goal from a Conor Conneally free kick in the 7th minute of the first period of extra time, proved to be enough and give one of the most successful junior clubs in the country their first provincial or national title at this level. Conor Conneally had given Town a 60th minute lead only to see it cancelled out ten minutes later by a Patrick Durkan headed goal.
Town who had lost out narrowly to Cork City in last two Munster Semi finals and in last years FAI Youth Cup semi final, were determined to avenge those defeats. For the opening thirty minutes of the match they looked the more impressive side. Shane Fagan and Michael Ivors were both impressive in midfield, whilst Evan Maguire also looked a threat. His first touch and trickery on the ball was a joy to watch on a very difficult night for football.
In the 24th minute Maguire shot wide of Ryan O'Neill goal. Three minutes later he did brilliantly to dispossess Patrick Durkin on the half way line before the big midfielder fouled him. The Cork City player was fortunate to see only yellow as Maguire had clear run on goal. However City eventually began to get a foothold in the game with Sean Stokes and Kieran Kenneally being a constant threat. In the 32nd minute Evan Comerford did brilliantly to deny Diarmuid Ryng. Just on half time, first Shane Fagan and then Michael Quinlivan came close to scoring as the ball bobbled around the City box. Ten minutes into the second half a beautiful shot from City's playmaker Kenneally hit the post with Comerford beaten.
Five minutes after that effort Town got their noses in front. A well worked move out of defence saw the ball at the feet of Shane Fagan. His lovely weighted pass found Evan Maguire in space and Maguire delivered a superb ball between the centre half's for the inrushing Conor Conneally to score. It was a beautifully crafted goal befitting any final. Town's joy only lasted ten minutes, when Patrick Durkan got on the end of a super cross from Daniel Fowler.
To be fair to Town they didn't drop their heads and in the 80th minute Evan Maguire found himself through on goal only for Ryan O'Neill to pull off a fine save. With time almost up, Diarmuid Ryng managed to get on the end of a great cross from Sean Stokes but his powerful strike from ten yards was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Evan Comerford. It was a save that ultimately won the game for Town.
Town had introduced Aiden McGrath for Captain Shane Fagan and in the 6th minute of extra time he was fouled out on the right wing. Conor Conneally sent over a great ball from which Adrian Cleere rose highest to powerfully head past O'Neill in the Cork goal. You could be forgiven for thinking that Town would have retreated back to their own box but this was not the case.
Town controlled the second period of extra time. A Daniel Fowler that went about a yard wide was Cork's only real chance. City's cause was not helped when ex Town player Mark Power received a second yellow card. Town managed to see out the remainder of the game and when referee's Anthony Walsh's whistle sounded for the last time, it sparked wild scenes of delight from the management team, players and everyone connected with Clonmel Town. The celebrations and emotion etched on everyone's face was reminiscent of the club's historic 1994 FAI Junior Cup triumph. It would be wrong to single out any one player on the Town team. One could only admire their honesty of effort, selfless team attitude and hunger for victory. On the night nobody in Turners Cross could deny them this wonderful victory.
Munster Council Chairman presented the cup to Town captain Shane Fagan. The captain paid tribute to Manager Jamie O'Flaherty and his assistant Jonathan O'Donoghue for their hard work. Shane thanked everyone at Clonmel Town for their support. Finally he reserved his final words for the late Andrew Walsh who died in tragic circumstances last September. Andrew had been a member of the youth squad and Shane Fagan added that this victory was dedicated to Andrew. It was the 85th final and now Clonmel Town now join fellow TSDL sides St Michaels, Old Bridge, Peake Villa and Clonmel Celtic as winners of this prestigious trophy.

Team Evan Comerford, Brian O'Hara, Shane Power, Adrian Cleere, Jonathan Ryan, Michael Quinlivan, Michael Ivors, Shane Fagan( Capt.), Rob Fitzpatrick, Evan Maguire and Conor Conneally
Subs Caique Silva for Michael Ivors, Aiden McGrath for Shane Fagan and Stephen O'Reilly for Rob Fitzpatrick. Albert O'Brien, Conor Davin Murphy, Bill Maher, Evan O Dwyer and Kevin Gunne.

Youths Create History To Claim Munster - 25th Apr

An extra time goal from Adrian Cleere was enough for Clonmel Town to claim their 1st ever Munster Youths Cup in dramatic fashion in Turners Cross on Saturday evening. This is a wonderful occasion for the club and has come fittingly on the clubs 47th birthday. Town had taken a deserved lead through Conor Conneally until the reigning champions equalised with 20 minutes to go until the collossal Adrian Cleere pounced up to score the all important and historic goal. Well done to Jamie, Jonathan and all the panel.

Well Done Tony - 25th Apr

The club would like to congratulate Tony Scully on his performances in the International Quadrangular Tournament held in Co Down last weekend. Tony played in the 1-0 victory over the Isle of Man and also in the 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland. He came on midway through the second half in the defeat to Scotland while his team were 2-0 down and was the catalyst to his teams near comback narrowly been defeated 2-1 in the end. The club are proud of his achievements, this brings Tony's caps to 5, well done Tony.

Get Well Soon Michael - 25th Apr

As the Youths triumphed in glory following their win in the Munster Youths Cup final one of the teams most influential players of the season Michael Ivors had a spell in hospital following an injury in the game, we wish Michael a speedy recovery and thank him whole heartedly for his efforts this year, well done Michael.

Town Advance In Local Derby - 29th Mar

Clonmel Town are through to yet another Munster Junior Cup semi final thanks to a hard earned 2-1 victory over near neighbours and rivals Clonmel Celtic. Played in front of a large attendance at the Dr Pat O’Callaghan sports complex, the game could never be described as a classic but in the end it was Town’s experience in the big games that was probably the difference between the sides. Town who have failed to beat Celtic in the last three encounters between the sides could not have asked for a better start. There were only 90 seconds on the clock when Evan Maguire put the home side in front. A Tony Scully free was knocked down by Aaron Moroney and some hesitant defending by both Craig Condon and Ciaran Kenrick allowed Maguire to steal for the games opening goal. Town looked the more settled side and in the 8th minute Maguire left Simon Scully for dead before producing a wonderful cross but Aaron Moroney couldn’t get his head to ball. Two minutes later it was role reversal when Moroney provided the cross for Maguire but the ball ran behind him with the goal at his mercy. Celtic then enjoyed a good period of possession but there only threat on goal was a Graham Doyle free kick that Richie Ryan saved comfortably. Celtic were also dealt a blow when Brian Waters had to go off injured. Then in the 24th minute Aaron Moroney scored Town’s second goal. He shot from the edge of the box beat the despairing dive of Kenrick to give Town a commanding two goal advantage. Once again Celtic enjoyed some decent possession but as has been the case in recent weeks, Town’s defence was coping very well. That was until the 34th minute. Ray Condon gave away a needless free near the corner flag. Simon Scully managed to stab home Graham Doyle’s delivery to put Celtic right back in the tie. It was Town who finished the half in the ascendency but two efforts from Aaron Moroney and Ian Barnes that never troubled Ciaran Kenrick. It was all set up for a pulsating second half but sadly it never materilised. The first real shot of the half came in the 55th minute when Paddy O’Donnell shot wide from twenty yards. Celtic once again enjoyed some good possession out the field but apart from launching balls into the box, they could never get behind a stubborn Town defence. Town for their part, created the more clear cut chances of the half. In the 68th minute Aaron Moroney held off a strong challenge from Craig Condon to run through on goal but blazed over. Five minutes later Barry Ryan did well to adjust feet on the edge of the box but once again his volley sailed over Ciaran Kenrick’s bar. In the 78th minute Kenrick came to collect a Rory Kiely cross but misjudged the flight of the ball, but lucky for him Craig Condon was on hand to clear the ball off the line. Barry Ryan then combined well with Stephen Ryan but the Thurles man’s radar was off as he shot wide. Town were nearly made to pay for these missed chances when in the 5th minute of injury time, Celtic had a goal ruled out for offside. Celtic had been awarded a generous free on the edge of the box. Richie Ryan could only parry Ian Fraher’s effort and David Joyce was on hand to slam the ball home only for his and Celtic’s joy to be cut short by the sight of the referee’s assistant flag. It was close call and one that caused disappointment for the away side but overall they can have few complaints as Town deserved their narrow win. Celtic will have to pick themselves up and focus on winning an historic first league title as well as trying to retain the Tipperary Cup. Town have now qualified for the semi final of this competition for a sixth time in nine years. They will be hoping to reach yet another final and retain the trophy they last won back in 2006. Nenagh AFC or Waterford side Villa FC stand in their way.

Youths Out Of Cup - 29th Mar

Our youths lost their grip on the Tipperary Cup when they went down by 2-1 in Cooke Park last Friday evening. Being Forced to play the game without seven first team regulars was always going to make a difficult match even more problematic. However great credit is due to the players that did line out. They took the lead only to concede a goal a minute from half time. One minute into the second half, we fell behind to a softly conceded goal. Try as hard we did we couldn't find an equaliser. It was tough luck on Jamie, Jonathan and all the players. It was a pity that we were forced to play such an important game without the players who played in the High Schools terrific win the All Ireland semi final. Given that we are only at the end of March, this tie could have been postponed for a couple of weeks. The club would like to congratulate the High School on their splendid victory and in particular to all the Clonmel Town players on the panel. We wish all of them the very best in the All Ireland Final.

Town Through To FAI Semi - 29th Mar

This Good Friday our Youths travel to Galway to take on Mervue United for a place in the semi final of the FAI Youth Cup. Once again this season, these players have demonstrated all that is good in team sport and football. They have already secured a place in the Munster Youth Cup final. Mervue United are one of the most progressive clubs in the country and are favourites to progress to the semi finals. However Town travel to Galway without fear and if we play to our capabilities, we can match any team anywhere in this country. Kick off is at noon. Best of luck to Jamie, Jonathan and all the players. Come on The Town!!

Town Through To FAI Semi - 14th Mar

For the second year running Clonmel Town are through to the last 4 of the FAI Junior Cup thanks to a goal from Dwaine Burns after just 20 seconds of play. It may be only his first of the season but it could be his most important as it gives his team a great chance to get to their first final since '94, match report to follow.

FAI Junior Cup Match Report - 11th Mar

For the fourth time in five seasons, Clonmel Town are through to the FAI junior Cup quarter final thanks to a 4-2 extra time victory over Killarney Athletic last Sunday. Played in the picturesque surroundings of Killarney Athletic, Town looked to be heading out of the competiton when after 31 minutes they fell two goals behind. However two second half goals from Raymie Condon and Barry Ryan forced the game into extra time. In extra time there looked to be only one winner and Town completed the job with goals from Ian Barnes another fine strike from Barry Ryan.
On what was a splendid day for football, Clonmel Town started very brightly and could have been a goal up after fifty seconds but Aaron Moroney blazed over after a fine ball from Tony Scully. Ian Barnes and Dwayne Burns were causing Athletic a lot of problems without testing the Athletic goalkeeper. Then with just over ten minutes on the clock, disaster struck for Town. A long ball out defence from Brian O’Reilly wasn’t dealt with and although not getting a clean strike on the ball, Roy O’Sullivan’s effort was enough to give Athletic the lead.
Town responded well and had serious claims for a penalty when Dwayne Burns looked to have been taken down. Then in the 31st minute, Athletic won their first corner of the game. Town who hadn’t conceded a goal in the competition went to sleep and conceded a second when Lucas Polyak stooped low to head past a stranded Richie Ryan. This looked to be the second killer goal but Town’s performance in the first half gave the large travelling support hope for the second half. To be fair Town were very unfortunate to be two goals behind.
The next goal in this game was going to critical. Clonmel Town pressed for that goal to get them back in the tie. Aaron Moroney saw a fine effort hit the post. From the resultant corner, Ian Barnes saw his effort cleared off the line. In the 60th minute Town’s pressure finally paid off. Raymie Condon rose highest to powerfully head home an Ian Barnes corner. Eight minutes later Town were level. Barry Ryan beat the offside trap to get onto the end of Stephen Ryan pass. Ryan’s shot flew into the roof of the net and the game was tied at 2-2. One minute later Ryan was taken down and the referee awarded a penalty but that decision was correctly overruled by his eagle eyed assistant.
The game ended two all. So not for the first time, Town faced extra time. The first period of extra time was three minutes old when for the first time in the tie; Town got their noses in front. The excellent Ian Barnes won a free kick out on the left hand side. His long delivery managed to slip through the fingers of Athletic keeper Brian O’Connor. Although the goal came fortuitously, it was no more than Town deserved. However Town still had to be alert at the back. John Shanahan and Raymie Condon were very impressive at the heart of the Town defence.
Four minutes into the second period of extra time, full back Ronan Stanley then surged forward his cross was headed away to the feet of Ian Barnes whose first time effort was well saved by O’Connor but Barnes reacted well to deliver a pin point pass to Barry Ryan, who skipped passed the challenge of Alex O’Sullivan to drill the ball past O’Connor and with it send Clonmel Town into yet another Quarter final appearance. Town will be happy with this result. The concession of two cheap goals will be of some concern but overall they can approach their trip to Athlete next Sunday to face Willow Park with confidence. Manager Martin Quinlivan and his players know that on their day they are capable of securing a result against any team.

Munster Junior Cup Match Report - 2nd Mar

A second half goal rush, which saw Clonmel Town score four times was enough to send the TSDL Champions through to the Munster Junior Cup quarter final. In truth Limerick Desmond League side Askeaton were no real match for Town, who now face a mouth watering home tie against neighbours Clonmel Celtic. Town missed a host of gilt edged opportunities before Rory Kiely finally put them ahead in the 61st minute. Aaron Moroney and a brace from Barry Ryan put the seal on a very comfortable afternoon for the TSDL side.
As early as the 1st minute a great chance fell to Aaron Moroney after the Askeaton keeper failed to deal with a Rory Kiely cross. Moroney’s shot was blocked on the line by Mark Fitzgibbon. However in the build up to the goal, one of the Askeaton defenders suffered a serious wrist injury and the game was held up for 15 minutes whilst he received treatment. When the game did eventually re start it was practically all one way traffic. Town bombarded the goal. Dwayne Burns shot over from close range. Tony Scully then saw his header hit the cross bar and from the rebound; his second header was cleared off the line by Dave Kenrick. Just before half time, Aaron Moroney blazed over from close range and then Askeaton keeper Danny Fitzgerald pulled off a great save to deny Dwayne Burns.
Town began the second half as they ended the first. Stephen Ryan played a lovely weighted pass into Dwayne Burns but he shot wide. Tony Scully then combined well with Ronan Stanley. Scully inch perfect cross was crying out for somebody to finish it to the net but with virtually an empty net to aim at Aaron Moroney blasted the ball over the bar. Danny Fitzgerad then pulled off another superb save to deny Tony Scully. The fear amongst the Town contingent was that Town would be punished for all of these missed chances. However Askeaton never really looked a threat going forward. Their two centre half’s of Moss Kenrick and Mike Fitzgibbon however did offer stubborn resistance.
In the 61st minute that resistance was finally broken when Rory Kiely kept his cool to shot from the edge of the box past Danny Fitzgerald. The Askeaton custodian had pulled off a number of great saves but he was powerless to prevent Kiely’s effort. Six minutes later Aaron Moroney scored a great second goal for Town. He turned beautifully in the box before curling the ball to the top left hand corner. This made the game safe for Town. Barry Ryan then applied a neat finish to end of a great Town move. In the 82nd minute the Thurles man raced clear of the Askeaton defence before slipping the ball past the Fitzgerald to round off a excellent victory for Clonmel Town.

FAI Match Report - 22nd Feb

Clonmel Town are through to the 7th round of the FAI Junior Cup after knocking out holders Ballymun United 4-3 on penalties, in the Dr Pat O'Callaghan Sports Complex last Sunday. Town who weren't favourites going into this game, gave an outstanding display and despite the game being decided on penalties nobody could deny that the better side went through to an away meeting with Killarney Athletic. This is the second week in a row that Town have won a cup tie on penalties. Once again Richie Ryan was the hero. He saved after Aaron Moroney saw his effort saved by David Conroy. The Town custodian then turned around and scored his own penalty.John Shanahan then scored to give Town match point. Then to the delight of everyone connected with Clonmel Town, Ballymun’s Danny Murphy sent his penalty wide. It was cruel luck on the young Ballymun player who was the away side’s best player.
There was edginess to the opening ten minutes of the match. However when both sides settled down, they produced a fascinating game of football. Tony Scully had the games first real strike on goal. His fierce shot was well gathered by David Conroy. Town then began to ask further questions of the Dublin side but they found the Ballymun centre half’s Chris Sheridan and Keith Murray a hard nut to crack. Ian Barnes who was outstanding throughout delivered a wonderful free kick but as the ball bounced around the penalty box, no Town player could apply the finishing touch. The last ten minutes, Ballymun began to squeeze the game and although having plenty of the ball the never forced Town custodian Richie Ryan into action. They did force two corners in a row but both were superbly headed away from danger by Raymie Condon. Ballymun started the second half as the ended the first but once again Town’s defence stood firm. Ronan Stanley and the lion hearted Darren Burns were superb in the full back positions. Then Town enjoyed their best spell of the match. They dominated possession of the ball. They forced a number of corners and free kicks. On a few occasions David Conroy was called into action. Tony Scully and Dwayne Burns both saw stunning strikes go inches the wrong side of the post. In truth Town looked the more likely side to score. However, with extra time looming, Rory Kiely did well to head a ball off the line. This was the last real action of the ninety minutes.
In extra time, Clonmel Town produced two great moves that almost yielded a winner. Adrian Cleere played a lovely weight pass for Ian Barnes. His strike from the edge of the box was brilliantly saved by Conroy. Then with time almost up Darren Burns produced a wonderful tackle to deny Noel Downey. Aaron Moroney then raced clear on goal but he pulled his shot just wide. John Hadnett blew his whistle to bring an end to a great cup tie and signal a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Clonmel Town have a wonderful record in shootouts but so have Ballymun. The first two penalties for both sides were converted. Town then missed to give the holders the advantage. However Richie Ryan who hadn’t a save to make in the 120 minutes of match, made a crucial one to swing the shootout back in Town’s favour. After scoring his own penalty it was all down to Danny Murphy’s penalty. It went the wrong side of the post and sparked off wild scenes of delight amongst the town players and fans. Clonmel Town have now firmly put their indifferent start to the season behind them. They gave an outstanding display and were worthy winners of the tie. Town can now look forward to the rest of the season with confidence, safe in the knowledge that on their day they are still a match for the best teams.

Town Through To Last 16 - 22nd Feb

The history of Clonmel Town is populated with wonderful days and last Sunday proved to be yet another one. A wonderful team display knocked the FAI Junior Cup holders Ballymun out of the competition. Over the 120 minutes of the tie, Town were the better and more creative side. Every one of the lads showed great courage and determination and were deserving winners. In the 120 minutes of the tie, Richie Ryan didn't have a save to make. Dwayne Burns, Tony Scully, Aaron Moroney and Ian Barnes all came close to scoring but unfortunately we could not find away past David Conroy's goal. It was then on to the lottery of shootouts and for a second week in a row, Town prevailed. Ian Barnes and Tony Scully both converted before Aaron Moroeny saw his penalty saved. However Richie Ryan saved ballymun's next kick. Richie then turned around and scored Town's next kick. John Shanahan then kept his cool to give Town match point. Ballymun missed their next penalty to spark off wild scenes of delight amongst the Town players and fans. We now look forward to a trip to Killarney Athletic in round seven.
A big thank you for the big turnout of supporters last Sunday. This support is really appreciated by all the management and players.

Town Advance In Munster Junior - 16th Feb

Our Junior team advanced to the 5th Round of the Munster Junior Cup thanks to a 3-1 penalty shootout victory away at Limerick side Star Rovers last Sunday. Town looked to be heading out of the competition but in the ninetieth minute Niall Kelly managed to control an Ian Barnes cross and his shot deflected over keeper John Ryan to give Town a priceless equaliser. Town won the penalty shootout 3-1. Richie Ryan proved to be the hero saving two penalties, including one that had to be retaken. Town who last season lost out at the semi final stage both in the Munster and FAI were always in control of this tie against a disappointing Nenagh side. For the second week in a row Clonmel Town's youth produced a wonderful display to book their place in the 5th round of the FAI Youth Cup. A trip to Waterford Bohemians was always going to be a tricky assignment but once again the team dug deep and produced another fantastic display. 110 minutes of football failed to produce a goal and it was on to the lottery of penalties. Goalkeeper Evan Comerford was once again the hero. Evan saved three out of four penalties to ensure a 3-1 victory. Our reward is a home tie in round five. Well done to Jamie, Jonathan and all on the players on yet another fantastic result.

Town Defeat The Rock - 1st Feb

The Junior team had to come from a goal down to secure all three points away to Rock Rovers last Sunday. Deerpark is always a tough place to go and this game proved no different. Rock hit the front when they scored from a corner kick. Town were unable to find a first half equaliser and went into the break a goal down. Town up the pace in the second half and in the 65th minute Niall Kelly equalised with a stunning strike from 25 yards. Ten minutes later Barry Ryan cut in from the wing and drilled the ball past the keeper for a 2-1 lead. Barry wrapped up all the points with a well taken goal.

Town Advance To Last 32 - 25th Jan

Our Junior team had a superb extra time victory over Donegal outfit Redcastle United last Sunday. Goals from Tony Scully and Barry Ryan secured our safe passage to round six and the last 32 of this most prestigious tournament.
The first fifteen minutes of the first half was a pretty even affair, but from there after it was only one team who looked the most likely to score. That said, despite dominating possession Clonmel Town didn’t carve out to many openings in the first half to trouble Redcastle custodian Gerard Crossan. Town did create a few half chances. In the 26th minute James O’Sullivan combined well with Tony Scully before delivering a super ball which Barry Murphy just failed to get on the end of. Ian Barnes then saw a shot well saved before right in half time Barry Ryan shot just wide after a lovely pass from Stephen Ryan.
Town really upped the pressure in the second half and really asked some questions of the excellent Redcastle defence. In the 54th minute Tony Scully played a lovely ball into the path of Ian Barnes who shot just wide. Two minutes later only last gasps tackle from Cathal Faulkner denied Barry Murphy a shot on goal. Aaron Moroney was introduced by Town and he almost had an immediate effect. Tony Scully beat three players before pulling the ball back to Moroney, his wonderful strike brought a superb save out of Crossan. With John Shanahan and Raymie Condon looking comfortable at the back, Town never looked like conceding but after failing to breach the defence at the other end it was on to extra time.
The first period was only four minutes old when the excellent Stephen Ryan was upended in the box. Annerville award winner Tony Scully kept his composure and struck the games opening goal. Town then invited Redcastle to try and penetrate their defence. Once again Town looked comfortable and with two minutes remaining Barry Ryan did brilliantly to beat two defenders before cutting in from the right wing and drilling the ball low past Crossan to seal victory for Clonmel Town.

Youths Come Through On Peno's - 25th Jan

Our Youth team are through to the 4th round of the Munster Junior Cup after a nerve racking penalty shootout victory over St Michaels. The game finished 0-0 after extra time, so it was on to the dreaded penalties. Goalkeeper Evan Comerford was the hero of the day, saving two before scoring the crucial penalty. Well done to Jamie, Jonathan and all the players on a fine victory. Next Sunday the youths travel to Waterford to play Bohemians for a place in the 5th round of the FAI Youth cup. This is a huge game so we would ask as many of our loyal supporters to try and make the trip to Waterford to get behind the lads.

Andrew Walsh RIP - 6th Oct

Everybody at Clonmel Town were shocked and deeply saddened at the news of Andrew Walsh's death in such tragic circumstances. Andrew was a fine footballer and an outstanding athlete. He started with Clonmel Town FC as a schoolboy and last season was a popular and valued member of our very successful youth squad. He also made his first team debut last season. The club would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his mother Ann, father Michael who was a schoolboy coach with the club, to his brothers Peter and David and the extended Walsh and Riordan families

Blossom Quinlivan is back at the hot seat as A team Manager of Clonmel Town after agreeing to take over the side following the departure of Charlie McGeever at the end of the season. Bloss is no stranger to sucess most notably having led the club to our only FAI sucess in 1994 at the tender age of 28. We look forward to seeing him back this season and wish him and his assistant Jamie O'Flaherty, who had fantastic success withe the Youth team last year the very best of luck for 2009/10 season.

Best Wishes Paul - 20th May

Everyone at the club would like to wish Paul Scully a speedy recovery following his double leg break against Clonmel Celtic in the Tipperary, Paul suffered the horrific injury in the 2nd half with 20 minutes gone on the clock. Paul has been fantastic for the club since his return from League of Ireland and has been instrumental in Towns record breaking six in a row league titles captaining each one. We all wish him the best of luck and we all cant wait to see him back on the turf of the complex.

Clonmel Town have to win their last remaining two league games to force a play-off after a 3-2 defeat to Peake Villa in the Complex, conceding a last minute goal. Their two remaining games are away to Rock Rovers and home to Old Bridge.

Town Through To FAI Semi - 22nd Mar

Clonmel Town are into the FAI Junior Cup Semi Final for the first time since 1999 thanks to a fantastic victory over Sherriff YC on penalties in the Complex last Sunday afternoon. After a 0-0 draw AET it all came down to who had the most nerves and with Tony Scully, Aaron Moroney, Michael Coady and Ian Barnes all scoring from the spot it was down to Richie Ryan to send the Town players and supporters wild with excitement with the final and winning penalty after he had saved Sherriff's 4th spot kick. Town now play the winners of Lisselton Rovers or St Peters in the Semi Final in Cahir Park. It was a game that even though Town controlled and had most possesion they were limited to efforts from outside the box finding it hard to break down a very determined Sheriff YC defence with Tony Scully and Aaron Moroney rattling the goalpost in each half. Sheriff still posed a threat but the back four led by the inspirational Robbie Costigan were in no mood to give anything away which meant the game would need to be decided by the dreaded penalty shoot out. Well done to Charlie, Bobba and their team on a great performance.

B Team Continue Decent Form - 22nd Mar

The B team who have found form of late ground out a hard fought victory over Galbally Utd in Ferryhouse on Sunday morning. Going behind after 20 minutes after a fine strike from Conor Hennebry they kept their heads and pushed for that important equaliser and got their just reward on the stroke of half time as Thomas O'Mahoney stabbed the ball home from a corner. Town started the 2nd half as they left off with Mark Power and O'Mahoney coming very close to putting their side in front. The next goal in this game was always going to be vital and for the 2nd week in a row Stephen O'Reilly got on the end of a ball and diverted the ball past the keeper to put his side in front. Galbally did give Town a scare with minutes to go hitting the post with a free kick but the defence held firm with O'Reilly and Brian Cleary leading from the back. Well done to all involved.

Moroney Back With A Goal - 8th Mar

Clonmel Town overcame Cahir Park in the Complex 4-0 on Sunday morning with the 4th and last strike coming from the boot of Aaron Moroney on his long awaited return to football having been out for the whole season, well done to Aaron on his return. Town Tops In Local Derby - 20th Jan

Clonmel Town marched in to the 4th round of the Munster Junior cup with a 3-0 home victory over near neighbours Clonmel Celtic last Sunday. The game was really a tale of two penalties, one saved and one converted by the hosts, which really determined the outcome of this match. Clonmel Town got off to a perfect start when after only five minutes a cross from Michael Coady fell at the feet of Barry Kiely and he provided a neat finish to put the 2006 winners in front. Despite being rocked by this early setback, Celtic settled into the game and ten minutes later they could and possibly should have leveled matters. Paul Kennedy got in between the town centre half’s and did brilliantly to kill a Brian Waters cross, but he took a touch to many and a combination of Richie Ryan and Darren Burns cleared the danger. Two minutes later Jonathan O’Mahoney did brilliantly to save from Tony Scully. Five minutes later Paul Kennedy again wasted a good opportunity to level the match but in the 38th minute he was presented with an even better chance when Celtic were awarded a penalty for an alleged elbow in the box. However Town custodian Richie Ryan made a superb save from Paul Kennedy’s well struck shot. Celtic were made to pay for this guilt edge missed opportunity when five minutes later, Town were awarded a penalty after Jonathan O’Mahoney kicked out at Michael Coady. Tony Scully made no mistake and Town went in two up at the break. In fact if not for a great clearance off the line by Johnny Cagney Town would have gone in further in front. Celtic to their credit tried in the 2nd half to get the goal that would turn the tie back in their favour. Two minutes into the half a defensive mix up let Paul Kennedy in on goal but Richie Ryan did well to clear and Andrew Cosgrave blazed the rebound over the bar. Paul Shanahan then headed over from ten yards when he should have at least hit the target. The longer the second half went on the more Town started to dominate. On 70 minutes Town looked to have made the game safe but Robbie Costigan’s goal was ruled out for a tight offside. Town continued to do more of the pressing and they wrapped up the match when right on full time Darren Burns made the maximum out of a defensive mix up to roll the ball into an empty net and send Town through and a home tie with Nenagh in round four. The score line was harsh on Celtic but Town when presented with goal chances took theirs and Celtic were made to rue a few missed opportunities, especially that 38th minute penalty. This was a hard earned win. Well done to Charlie, Sean and all the players on a great victory.

Weekend Results - 5th Jan

Its was a mixed weekend for the club last weekend, an understrength Youths side travelled to take on rivals St Michaels and were defeated 2-0, the B team on Sunday travelled to Galbally and were defeated 3-1 with Barry Gibbons on the scoresheet while Sunday afternoon the A team had an easy 6-0 win over Ballincollig in the 5th round of the FAI Junior Cup thanks to two goals each from Barry Kiely and David McGrath and one each from Eddie O'Brien and Ian Barnes, the latter being a penalty. Well done to all.
