In a swirling first half wind Town dictated the whole 1st half knocking three past a hapless Athletic thanks to goals from Billy Hewitt, Caique Silva and the third from man of the match Jonathan Ryan. Town Win Champions Clash - 16th Dec

Clonmel Town knocked reigning FAI Junior Cup Champions Waterford Crystal out the cup in the own back yard on Sunday evening 9-8 on penalties after 1-1 draw AET. Overall they thoroughly deserved their win. John Shanahan gave them a perfect start by stealing in at the back post and heading them into a 3rd minute lead. Town had the majority of the play and wasted several chances to increase their lead as Tony Scully and Dwaine Burns both went close but were denied by great stops from Irish Junior keeper Derek Hearne. Town went in at the break 1-0 to the good. Crystal to their credit came out battling and equalised about 15 minutes into the 2nd half which made it a dramatic final half hour. Tony Scully then hit the post following a wonderful move down the right flank but no one could get that all important second goal in normal and extra time which meant the game was to be decided by a dreaded penalty shoot out. With Crystal having won their last 9 penalty shoot outs it looked like Town might have lost their chance but some brave and gutsy penalties from Town ensured they eventually ran out 9-8 winners on penalties after Crystals Paul Wyse blasted over the bar. The spot kick takers for Town were Richie Ryan, John Shanahan, Ray Condon, Tony & Paul Scully, Ian Barnes, Michael McHugh, Michael Coady and the 9th and winner came from Ronan Stanley. The B team avenged their defeat from Ballingarry in last years Tipp Cup on Sunday afternoon defeating them 4-1 in the first round of the Paddy Purtill in very blustery conditions in the Commons. Another Youth player got on the scoresheet as young John O'Brien making his debut with the B team saw his left foot shot beat the keeper at his near post to see Town go in at the break 2-0 up. The 2nd half saw Town face a strong wind which saw Ballingarry come into the game. Munster Derby Clash - 6th Dec

Sparks should fly on Sunday afternoon in the Bypass as the big guns of football in Clonmel clash in the 3rd round of the Munster Junior Cup. If this game had been played last year or the year before the result would not have been in doubt but due to Celtic's re-emergence as a footballing force in the TSDL, it should add some extra spice and anticipation to the tie. Celtic are unbeaten this season and have had their best start to the season since their formation a couple of years ago and would love nothing else but to topple current Munster Junior Cup Champions and fierce rivals Town. Town should have influential and long serving captain Paul Scully back from injury to anchor an already strong midfield line and with Alan Coady back after suspension and Aaron Moroney back in the side this is sure to be one hell of a schmozzle. Best of luck to Charlie, Sean and all the players.

Rockmount Defeat Town - 4th Dec

An OG was enough to send Rockmount through to the 3rd round of the Munster Senior Cup on Sunday afternoon. Town fielded a very depleted team missing influntial captain Paul Scully and strikers Aaron Moroney and Michael McHugh. Rockmounts only goal was scored deep into the 2nd half. Even though it is a nice competition to be involved in, it will hardly cause a nights missed sleep to Charlie and Bobba with next weeks Munster Junior clash with Clonmel Celtic looming closer. Hard luck to all.

Easy Win For B's - 4th Dec

Theres nothing like a Crowe show and so that seemed on Sunday morning as a four goal haul from Richie Crowe was the difference between Town and Celtic in Ferryhouse on Sunday morning. Against a strong breeze in the first half Town showed great resilience in defending and took the lead through a Crowe opener thanks to a pin point cross from left full Alan O'Shea. Crowe competed his four goal route in the second half with three fine goals to take his tally to 7 for the season. This weekend sees the U13 and U15 squads in action against rivals Cahir Park. The U13's who had a disappointing draw in their first game of the season will be looking to ensure maximum points from this outing while the U15's who made the perfect start overcoming St Michaels 3-1 will look to keep their momentum going and look for two wins out of two. Best of luck to both teams on Saturday.

Best of luck to all teams.

The A team defeated Two Mile Borris in the Complex on Sunday thanks to three first half goals, one from the head of Paul Scully and two from Michael McHugh. Borris did pull back one from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 but it was all too late and Town ran out deserving 3-1 winners. A more detailed match report to follow. Well done to Charlie, Billy and all the players.

Late Equaliser Holds The B's - 25th Sept

A last gasp equaliser from Vee Rovers meant the B team slipped up in Ferryhouse on Sunday morning and lost ground on league leaders Cashel Town. Despite having all the ball and controlling matters in the 1st half they went a goal behind after 30 minutes. Town spurned a number of chances and it looked like it was not goin to be their day as chance by chance fell abegging. The second half was more of the same with Town swarming their opponents. As the minutes ticked away on the clock and inswinging cross was met by Richie Crowe and his header was adjudged to have crossed the line despite sever protests from Vee Rovers. With 5 minutes remaining a free kick from David McSharry into the square was again met by Crowe and he made no doubt drilling his header past the keeper. As the final seconds ticked away a long ball was sent into the Town square and wasnt dealt with sufficiently falling to the feet of a Vee Rovers man on the edge of the penalty area and he slotted home breaking hearts of the Town men who had fought so hard to get back into the game. Hard luck to Glen, Bradley and all the players. We would like to wish Darren Burns a speedy recovery after having recieved an unfortunate injury while on the field.

Youths League Clonmel Town 2-2 St Michaels - 25th Sept

Our Youth team had to settle for a point against St Michaels last Saturday. St Michaels took the lead in the 15th minute but just before half time, David "Baz" McGrath got on the end of a Michael Freeney cross to level up proceedings. Then in the second half we conceded a misfortunate goal, when a cross deceived everyone and ended up in the goal. However with ten minutes to go, Rory Kiely produced a bit of magic, beating two players before shooting low past the keeper, to earn Town a deserved draw.

U12 League Peake Villa 0-11 Clonmel Town - 25th Sept

Two wins out of two for the U12s when they enjoyed a goal fest in Thurles last Saturday. Town started in whirlwind fashion and Sam Ryan (2), Bill Maher (2) Ian Fahey and Jonathon Yates had the visitors six up at half time. Second half goals from Colman Kennedy, James Murphy, Shane Flynn and Bill Maher (2) completed the rout and saw Town run out comfortable winners.

U14 League Peake Villa 0-0 Clonmel Town - 25th Sept

The U14s suffered heartbreak in their second match in the league in Thurles last Saturday when they somehow failed to score despite total domination. In a game the Town strikers will want to forget Town failed to find the net through a combination of superb goalkeeping by home keeper Gary Lanigan and some awful finishing by the Town strikers. Shane Fagan and Caique Silva should have had a hat trick each by half time and it got no better in the second half as the goalkeeper's heroic efforts, the woodwork on three occasions and some terrible shooting, all combined to deny Town a victory they would have thoroughly deserved.

Weekend Action Review - 19th Sept

The Youth team take on St Michaels in Ferryhouse on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm. After last weeks defeat to local rivals Clonmel Celtic they will be looking for a win here to kick-start their season. Both U12 & U14 schoolboy teams travel to Thurles to take on Peake Villa. Both sides made the perfect start to the season by beating Clonmel Celtic two weeks ago and will now look account for the Mid Tipp outfit of Villa. On the Junior front the B team who had a marvellous 7-2 win over Clonmel Celtic B last Sunday will take on Vee Rovers in Ferryhouse this Sunday at 12 Noon. Little or much is know of this Vee Rovers side so they should expect a tough test. The A team, following a two week break entertain Two Mile Borris in the Complex and will expect another bruising and dogged encounter. Having completed the double over Borris last season they will be looking to put the record straight. Best of luck to all teams involved in action over the weekend.

B Team Demolish Celtic - 17th Sept

The B team begun their league season in the Bypass against Clonmel Celtic B on Sunday morning and despite going behind against the run of play from a Tommy Kiely goal they dusted themselves down and by halftime it was 3-1 thanks to goals in a 5 minute spell from Darren Burns, Barry Kiely and Declan O'Brien. Town continued their dominance in the second half and added more goals to the scoresheet with sub Jason Kiely scoring a brace, Darren Burns adding another to his tally and that man again Declan O'Brien converting from the spot and notching his fifth of the season after Burns had been felled. Celtic did score a consolation goal through John Landers in the final moments but it was all too late. Well done to Glen, Bradley, Johnny and the players.

Schoolboys Review - 17th Sept

The U13' and U15's kicked off their league seasons in the Complex both against St Michaels on Saturday morning. The U13's were first to play and even though it was a very good and entertaining contest it finished a scoreless draw. In the second game the U15's had a fantastic start coming from 1-0 to win 3-1 thanks to a double from man of the match Craig Brew and the other from Brazilian Caique Silva. Well done to all.

Youths Go Down - 17th Sept

The promising Youths side had a bad start to the season going down 1-0 to local rivals Clonmel Celtic 1-0 in the Complex on Saturday afternoon. It could of been more only for a fine penalty save from Emmett Donlan. A lot of hard work is needed and and improved performance is required if they have any chance of capturing any silverware.

Kevin Butler Memorial by PRO Muiris Walsh - 12th Sept

Last Friday was another sad day in the history of Clonmel Town with the death of our Vice President Kevin Butler. He was a member of Clonmel Towns committee for over twenty years and was an integral part of our club. Kevin's association with football goes back almost seventy years. He won a Munster Junior Cup winners medal in 1950 and scored the first goal in Clonmel's AFC 2-0 win over Rock Rovers in the final. Therefore it was only apt that on the night we regained the trophy, that our Captain Paul Scully dedicated the victory for Kevin. He more than any other person was delighted that the blue ribband trophy of Munster was once again back in Clonmel. He was also delighted that the Cup was brought to his house in the days following that wonderful victory. His passion for the club never diminished I firmly believe that if Clonmel Town were drawn away to Alaska in January Kevin Butler would be the first person to pay at the gate. Hail, rain, snow or sunshine if Clonmel Town were playing Kevin would be there. His contribution to the running and welfare of our club was immense. He did it out of pure love for Clonmel Town. Kevin simply loved the club and all of our teams. He was a father figure to all of us involved in the club and in truth a little part of our club died with him but that part is in the safest possible hands.
Kevin Butler was one of the most respected and much loved men not only in our club but also in football. Above all of this he was a perfect gentleman, the definitive gentleman. Every time you met Kevin he always shook your hand and when he asked you how you were, he meant it. He was a man that was impossible to have an argument with. Any person who spoke ill of Kevin Butler is a person incapable of speaking the truth. It was a privilege to be part of a committee with Kevin and an even greater one to have known him. We will all mourn his loss but we will also work harder to bring success to Clonmel Town, for that is what this wonderful man would want. We will also think of the legacy he left us, an example of a life whose riches owe little to money, where only people really matter. Kevin was a model of what a human being should be. Those were all the great gifts and qualities that Kevin Butler possessed. People of an older generation will be able to remember Kevin Butler the footballer, every generation will never forget the true gentleman that was Kevin Butler. Rest Easy Kevin. We will never forget you.
The club would like to extend our sincerest sympathies to Kevin's Wife Breda, Son Tony, Daughter Martine and all the extend Butler Family.

Local Derby For B's - 12th Sept

The B team take on local rivals Clonmel Celtic B in Ferryhouse Sunday morning at 11.30am which will effectively kick off their League season following the postponement of last weeks league opener. This should be a tough game for the B team as all local derbies are. Celtic have shown some good form of late so will be a tough test for the B team. Best of luck to Glen, Bradley, Johnny and all the players.

Schoolboys - 12th Sept

The U13' and U15's kick off their league seasons in Ferryhouse on Saturday with both games down against old rivals St Michaels. The U13's who are current League Champions will look to capture yet another title to their already impressive collection. Under the guidance of no other than Martin Quinlivan and and coached PJ Quinlivan and Brian McGrath, a season should be in store. They have plenty of talent in the team among them notibly Evan Comerford, Michael Quinlivan, Aidan McGrath and Ashley Keane. The U15's last year by their own standards had a poor season but this year have shown great promise under recent challenge games. At the helm this season is Jamie O'Flaherty who was a member of the 1994 FAI Junior Cup winning team. He is assisted by Chris O'Flaherty. Players to note for the U15's are Brian O'Hara, Evan McGuire, Craig Brew and John Ryan. Best of luck to both teams for the coming season.

Kevin Butler RIP - 10th Sept

Clonmel Town lost another one of its all-time greats on Friday night as news filtered through of the death of one of the true gents of the game Kevin Butler. Everyone at the club are saddened to hear of the passing of one of the most repected and loved figures in the club. On the night Clonmel Town captured the Munster Junior Cup in May some of the members and players visited Kevin in his sick bed to show him the Cup he once held as a winner back in 1950. The club would like to extend its sincere sympathy to his family and friends. May he never be forgotton and rest in peace.

U14: Clonmel Town 4-0 Clonmel Celtic - 10th Sept

Reigning champions Clonmel Town started their U14 league season with a fine 4-0 victory over neighbours Clonmel Celtic in the Complex on Saturday afternoon. After a sluggish start to the first half where they failed to get into their normal stride they went in at the break with a 1-0 thanks to wonderful strike from Shane Power from all of 25 yards. In the 2nd half Clonmel Town became more confident on the ball and used its flanks to greater effect and this seemed to open up their opponents and they were 2-0 to the good when Caique Silva was felled in the box after some dazzling dribbling. Liam Boland converted the spotkick with ease. The third goal came a few minutes later following great work on the flank from David Walsh and Daniel O'Connor, the resultant cross was headed home at the back post by Caique Silva. Darren Bray put the icing on the cake in the final minutes with a cool finish form inside the penalty box. Well done to Chris, Michael and their team.

U12: Clonmel Town 3-0 Clonmel Celtic - 10th Sept

Town can call on the wealth of experience with the likes of Christy Aylward, Dwayne Burns, Michael Coady, Simon Scully & Rory Kiely who have all tasted 1st team action this year. Town have also signed an excellent keeper in Matthew O'Donnell. Best of luck to all for Saturday and to the coming season.

Classic Derby Awaits - 6th Sept

Clonmel Town and Old Bridge will square up once again this weekend as they take each other on in the Prmier Division clash. Town who have had four wins and a draw to their credit already this season take on a Bridge team who have not yet realy got into their stride and have disappointed so far, surprisingly after showing so much pre-season promise. That however will count for nothing on Sunday as two teams who have more history together than Bonnie & Clyde will fight tooth and nail for three valuable points. Best of luck to Charlie, Bobba and all the players.

B Team Kick Off League - 6th Sept

Town's second string will kick start there season on Sunday and look for three league titles in a row as they take on Vee Rovers in Ferryhouse on Sunday morning at 12 noon. It did not go all their own way as Sarsfields took a surprised lead with 15 minutes gone only for two strikes from Declan O'Brien restored parity for the B team as they went in at half-time with a 2-1 lead. It was mostly one way traffic in the 2nd half, a couple of changes in the 2nd half seemed to spur on Town and two further strikes, one from debut boy David McSharry and the other from O'Brien who completed his hatrick and sealed a 4-1 win for the B's. Golf Classic - 11th July

Clonmel Town F.C. are holding our annual Golf Classic on July 28th, at the Clonmel Golf Club. As you are aware we have completed two off the field projects in the last 12 months. Our new dressing rooms have been built and work has also been completed on our new state of the art All weather playing pitch. As you can imagine despite government funding, the costs of these projects was huge and whilst that government money appreciated it still falls way short of our projected costs. We would hope that this Golf Classic could raise funds that would help us to achieve our goal of further developing our facilities and continuing our success on the field of play. It is the dream of every member to have a Sports Complex worthy of the name of Dr Pat O’Callaghan and one that the people of Clonmel and surrounding areas can be proud of. We would like if your company could sponsor a team of 3 at a cost of 200 euro. You could also sponsor a tee box for 50 euro per tee. A meal will be provided in the clubhouse after your round of golf. We will also have many prizes on the day. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please contact PRO Muiris Walsh at 086-8159136 or any committee member.

Danone Cup Winners 2006 - 28th June

They said it couldn't happen again but it has. Clonmel Town's U11's retained their Danone Cup in Dublin last Saturday and another World Cup in Lyon beckons for this team. They beat Home Farm 1-0 in the semi final and Belvedere United 5-4 on pens in the final. It is incredible to think that in two years of regional finals and national finals, they have yet to concede a goal. The last 52 weeks have been wonderful for this club both on and off the field. It started with the Danone Cup win and it has concluded with another historic win. It is impossible to put into words what this means for our club. To win it once is incredible but to retain it is just beyond our wildest dreams. To go to Dublin as holders and beat the cream of Ireland as holders is something that very few teams could do. Great Credit must go to managers Cyril Conran and Chris Regan for the way they have prepared the team. Cyril Conran is no stranger to success on the big stage. FAI Junior player of the year in 1993 and Captain Fantastic of our 1994 FAI Junior Cup Winning team, he has now proven himself as a manager. Nobody has done more for schoolboy football in this Town or beyond than Chris. It is only right that he should now have the opportunity to manage a team on a world stage. Without Chris Regan, none of this would be possible. Clonmel Town and indeed the people of Clonmel should be very grateful for the service that Chris has given to sport over the last 30 years. The management and the players have been once again great ambassadors for both our club and the town of Clonmel. They will now go on and represent their country. Every honour that will be bestowed on them will be deserved. each and every one of them are heroes and for that they should take a bow. Come on the Town.

Danone Cup - 26th June

Congratulations to Chris O'Regan, Cyril Conran and their U11 team who have qualified for the Danone Cup Finals which will be held in Lyon later this year by beating Belvedere in the qualifiers final on penalties. This is the 2nd year in sucession and is a fantastic achievement. More to follow.

Club Social - 26th June

The club held their celebratory night in Hotel Minela last Friday night and what a sucess it turne out to be. Dancing along to the sound of Opus 1 into the early hours of the morning there were plenty of sick heads on Saturday. The Munster Junior Cup winning team of 1986 were honoured along with the 2006 winning team. There were also individual awards given out. Alan Coady picked up "A" team Player Of The Year while Chris O'Flaherty collected up the "B" team accolade. Tony Scully Snr was selected as Club Person Of The Year for his trojan work as Secretary while Sean Norris picked up the coveted Supporter Of The Year award. Pictures will be uploaded in the coming days.

Kennedy Cup - 10th June

Best of luck to Michael Quinlivan, Shane Fagan and Paul Nolan who have been selected to represent Tipperary in the forthcoming U14 Kennedy Cup which takes place this coming Monday for a week in Limerick. Paul is a fantastic goalkeeper who is trained weekly by two of the best goalkeepers ever to come from the Town in Stephen O'Neill and Martin Quinlivan while Michael, son of Martin is a very skillful and versatile midfielder. Best of luck to both next week from everyone at the club.

U11 League Clonmel Town 1-1 St Michaels - 30th May

The U11s were crowned league champions on Tuesday night of last week, when they played out a one all draw with arch rivals St Michaels. Knowing that a point was all that was needed Town were in confident mood from the start and went close on a number of occasions in the early stages. The pressure eventually told when Paraic Louram opened the scoring with a low shot from the right wing just before half time, but Town relaxed after the break and St Michaels got a deserved equaliser through Robert Lowry. Town held out in the end to become champions and afterwards captain Cathal McGeever was presented with the league trophy by secretary John Cremmins.

U13 League Cahir Park 1-2 Clonmel Town - 30th May

The U13s were crowned champions when they had a fabulous victory in the final day shoot out with Cahir last Wednesday. Having finished runners up to this Cahir side in each of the last three seasons, Town were determined to finally put one over on their arch rivals and become champions for the first time. The game started at frantic pace as both teams knew victory would be enough for the title and Cahir took the lead after fifteen minutes when Cormac Crowe raced through to score. This seemed to spur Town on and Liam Boland equalised from a free kick just before half time. The second half was only five minutes old when Caiqe Silva scored a brilliant individual goal to put Town in sight of the title. The remainder of the game was a titanic battle but Town held on to record a famous victory and seal their first ever league title.

U16 League Semi Final Clonmel Town 3-1 St Michaels - 30th May

The U16s reached the league decider with a great victory over St Michaels in the Complex last Wednesday. Town got off to a whirlwind start with Luke Moore scoring twice in the first ten minutes, and then Sean Carey raced through to make it three just before the break. Town understandably took their foot off the pedal in the second half and St Michaels pulled a goal back through Gary Frewen with ten minutes left. Town however comfortably saw it through to the finish to set up a cracking league decider with local rivals Clonmel Celtic.

U16 Cup Final St Kevins 1-3 Clonmel Town - 30th May

Town's trophy laden week was complete on Friday evening last when Chris Regan's U16s emerged victorious against surprise packets St Kevins in the cup final in Cooke Park. St Kevins who had knocked out a couple of fancied sides to reach the decider, looked likely to add Town's name to their list when they took the lead after only five minutes through Killian Durack. Town however responded like champions and ten minutes later a Gavin Fraher free kick was knocked down by Luke Moore for Michael Cooper to bring Town level. Within minutes Town were ahead when a Donal Lynch through ball was brilliantly volleyed to the net by Sean Carey and then just before the break man of the match Rory Kiely went on one of his trademark runs before squaring the ball for David McGrath to slot home. The second half was an even affair but Town always looked comfortable and at the end were deserving winners of the cup for the fourth season in a row.

Town Complete Perfect Season - 29th May

Clonmel Town completed their league campaign on Saturday evening and made it 16 wins from 16 games, an achievement which has only been done once ever before back in 1994 by the famous FAI team. Michaels took the lead in the first half by Michael Ellard but a free kick from Tony Scully, a cool finish by Slovak Jan Seamonick and a wonderful third goal by Aidan Landers sealed a great victory over our greatest rivals. Well done to Charlie, Billy and all the players on a wonderful season which go down long in the memory.

We will also be honouring the 1986 Munster Junior Cup winning team. Tickets are 30 euro and are available from either Tony Scully, Jeanette Condon, Brian O'Donnell or any Committee member. Opus 1 will play at the social so a good night is in store.

Season Comes To An End - 27th May

This Saturday evening at the Complex, Cashel Road, Clonmel the curtain will finally come down on another outstanding Tipperary Southern & District League season with newly crowned Munster Junior Cup holders and Clonmel Credit Union Premier League champions Clonmel Town take on arch-rivals and Tipperary Challenge Cup winners St. Michael's FC. This Premier League finale has a 6pm kick-off. This game was called off last Sunday.
Normally this fixture pans out as the deciding one between the TS & DL's two top sides but on this occasion Clonmel Town made sure it would not come down to this crucial game when wrapping up the Liam Delahunty Perpetual Cup for the third season on the trot by collecting a maximum of 45 points from their 15 games.
Having won in Cooke Park, Tipperary last August in the opening game, Clonmel Town had the upper hand over St. Michael's from the off. Then with Saints dropping another two points away to Peake Villa in Thurles, Clonmel Town knew that if they could keep their composure throughout a tough campaign they could be out of reach of their number one rivals and the rest is history. Now St. Michael's will visit the Complex seeking revenge not only for denying them a crack at the championship but more importantly for taking the Munster title to Clonmel.
There is also the matter of Clonmel Town hoping to repeat their own record of going through a league campaign undefeated, last achieved by them in 1994 when both skipper Paul Scully and Kevin Blanche were members. That's not something that the likes of St. Michael's will take lightly so although the Championship for 2005/06 is a foregone conclusion there will be more than just pride played for here. It could well be the opening round of 2006/07 as both these sides that have the outmost respect for each other lay down a marker for the new season.

U13's Capture League Title - 25th May

Clonmel Towns answer to Jose Mourinho has done it again. Not happy with winning FAI Junior Cups, Premier Leagues, Tipp Cups and even Danone Cups, he has worked his magic once more. On Wednesday night Blossom Quinlivan led the U13's to league glory on the final day of the season in Cahir Park in a thrilling 2-1 victory over their nearest opponents. They went a goal behind after 20 minutes through Cormac Crowe. Just before half time Liam Boland equalized from a 25 yard free kick and Caique Silva scored what proved to be the winner when he dummied past three players on the edge of the box and coolly slotted past the keeper. This was a first league title for this team having been league runners up as U10's, U11's and U12's. They now play the Tipp Cup Final against the same opposition on Saturday in Bansha. Well done to everyone involved.

U13 League St Michaels 1 - 1 Clonmel Town - 23rd May

The U13's maintained their place at the top of the table when they were happy to come away from St Michaels with a point on last Tuesday week. Town played some good football in the first half against the breeze and when Shane Fagan opened the scoring just after the break Town looked set to record a crucial victory. However St Michaels then started to win the midfield battle and eventually scored a deserved equaliser with three minutes left through Barry Collins. The league now comes down for the third year running to a final day shoot out between Cahir Park and Clonmel Town which is scheduled for this Wednesday in Cahir.

Joy At Awards Night - 20th May

Congratulations to Paul Scully and to Neil Beckett who captured their divisional Player Of The Year awards last night in Cahir House. On a very proud night for the club where we had our six trophies on show, Paul scooped his second award while it was Neil's first. Commisirations to young Rory Kiely who was nominated for the Youth award. At the tender age of 16 and with two more years to go in Youth football im sure he will be back to collect one. Well done to all!

Player Of The Year Awards - 19th May

Best of luck to Paul Scully, Neil Beckett and Rory Kiely who have all being nominated for Player Of the Year from their perspective divisions. It has been a fantastic year for the club so for everyone to pick up an award tonight would be a marvellous ending. U11 League Clonmel Celtic 0-4 Clonmel Town - 15th May

The U11s maintained their 100% record in the league away to local rivals Clonmel Celtic last Tuesday evening. Town opened the scoring after six minutes through Paraic Louram and Keith Brown doubled the lead after twenty minutes with a low shot from six yards. Town continued their dominance in the second half and Colman Kennedy made it three with a fine shot from outside the box, before Gregory Henry finished the scoring late on with a great finish from a Thomas Keaveney pass.

U12 League Cashel Town 0-4 Clonmel Town - 15th May

The U12s were crowned champions for the third year in a row with a comprehensive win in Cashel last Saturday. Town found the bumpy pitch difficult to master in the early exchanges and it took twenty five minutes for the first goal to arrive when Eoin Fitzgerald slotted home after an excellent five man passing movement. Town were much better in the second half and Levi Whelan's penalty and a smart finish from Colman Kennedy wrapped up the three points early in the second half. Aidan McGrath finished the scoring with a lovely finish from a wonderful through ball from Michael Quinlivan just before full time. It was fitting that the team that started such a glorious season for Clonmel Town with their exploits in the Danone Cup last September, should now follow the club's fantastic Munster Junior Cup win twenty four hours earlier, by wrapping up their own league title with a 100% record.

U13 Cup Semi Final Cashel Town 0-3 Clonmel Town - 15th May

The U13s reached the cup final with a very good win in Cashel last Wednesday evening. Town knew that to reach their fourth consecutive cup final they would have to battle a very game Cashel side in this semi final and so it proved. Town were on top in the first half but couldn't find the way through a determined home defence and it wasn't until captain Shane Fagan opened the scoring at the start of the second half that Town could relax. Caique Silva doubled the lead shortly after and their place in the final against Cahir Park was secure when Shane Fagan got the third late on from an excellent cross from Aidan McGrath.

Finally after a long 20 year wait, the Munster Junior cup is back home in the Complex thanks to a 2-1 defeat of neighbours St Michaels in Cahir Park last night. Well done to all involved, match report is available in the results section.

Munster Junior Final - 8th May

Next Friday we make the short journey to Cahir to play St Michael's in the Munster Junior Cup Final. Kick off 7pm. It is our third final in a row and a repeat of last year's decider. The team has done remarkably well to get to another final and hopefully our luck in finals will change. We would make a big appeal to all our fans to travel out to Cahir and really get behind the lads. Once again all the squad are to be applauded for another wonderful season where they have trained hard and have been wonderful ambassadors not just for our club but for the town of Clonmel as well. They know that they face a huge challenge next Friday but not an insurmountable one. Best of Luck to Billy, Charlie and all the players.

U11 League: Cashel Town 1-2 Clonmel Town - 8th May

The U11's took a huge stride towards league honours when they beat cup finalists Cashel Town in Palmershill last week. Town were on top from the kick off with Ian Fahey, Colman Kennedy and James Murphy the main instigators of Town's dominance. Town went in front after 20 minutes through Paraic Louram and held their lead until ten minutes from the end when Cashel equalised with a superb header from James Minogue. However Town knew the importance of victory and went all out for the winner which arrived five minutes later when Gregory Henry finished off a great cross from Thomas Keaveney.

U12 League: Clonmel Town 2-0 Clerihan - 8th May

The U12's made it ten straight wins in the league with a fine victory over a battling Clerihan side in the Complex last Friday evening. Town played some of their best football of the year in this match and were unlucky not to be ahead at the break with man of the match Aidan McGrath particularly prominent down the right wing. The lead goal arrived fifteen minutes into the second half when Michael Quinlivan scored with a superb free kick form twenty five yards. The win was secured with five minutes left when Eoin Fitzgerald brilliantly finished a Colman Kennedy cross from the right. The team now need only one more victory to wrap up their third league title in a row.

U13 League: Clonmel Town 0-0 Cahir Park - 8th May

The league's top two sides played out a battling draw in the Complex last Wednesday evening which leaves the destination of the title open for a few more weeks. Town were sluggish in the first half, no doubt affected by the fact that some of the team had to play for their school just hours before kick off and had to be thankful to their defence, with sweeper Shane Ryan in excellent form, to remain on terms at the break. The loss of captain Shane Fagan and Shane Taylor at half time seemed to inspire their team mates and Town were the better side in the second half. Michael Quinlivan came closest with two excellent free kicks from outside the box and Liam Boland and Jonathan Ryan were both denied by last ditch defending. At the other end Liam Carey had to be alert to keep out a late effort from Cormac Crowe, as both sides had to settle for a point in the race for league honours.

Danone Cup - Tipperary Qualifiers - 8th May

The long road to the Gerland Stadium in Lyon, so gloriously travelled last season by Clonmel Town, began again in Ferryhouse last Sunday when the Tipperary qualifiers took place. Seven teams assembled on a sunny afternoon with two places in the South East regional qualifiers up for grabs. Clonmel Town with four survivors from last years champions were favourites but knew that a tough afternoon lay ahead. In the first group match Town played Clerihan and although creating the better chances couldn't break down the Clerihan defence and had goalkeeper Evan Comerford to thank for securing the ranking point from the subsequent penalty shoot out. In the second group match Town were paired with local rivals Clonmel Celtic and secured victory a fantastic diving header from Keith Brown from a Colman Kennedy corner kick. Town knew that victory in their final group match against St Kevins would secure top spot and a semi final place against the second placed team in the other group. They opened the scoring through another brilliant header from Keith Brown and doubled their lead when Ian Fahey finished smartly from a Robbie Flynn pass. Paraic Louram then added a third late on to give Town victory and a semi final place against Cahir Park. With two teams to qualify victory here would secure Town a place in the regional qualifiers and as such this was a nervous occasion. There were only seven minutes left when Ian Fahey opened the scoring with an excellent individual goal and qualification was secured when goalkeeper Evan Comerford travelled the length of the field to rifle home an unstoppable twenty metre free kick in the last minute. With qualification secure Town were able to give all their panel a run in the final match with fellow qualifiers Cashel Town and the game ended in an honourable nil all draw. Town now await details of the regional qualifiers when, as last year, they will face the representatives from Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and Carlow. The prize for the winners on that day will be a place in the National Finals in Dublin at the end of June.

U12 Cup: Clonmel Celtic 0-0 Clonmel Town - 9th April

The U12s suffered cup heartbreak in the quarter finals in Ferryhouse last Friday night when they went out on penalties against local rivals Clonmel Celtic. The game can be summed up quite simply in that Town dominated from start to finish but couldn't get the important break through goal against a determined Celtic side. Time and again Town created dangerous situations but a combination of last ditch defending, solid goalkeeping and plain bad luck deprived them of the goal they deserved. As darkness descended the home team proved the better in the penalty shoot out and the coveted 'John Kane Memorial Cup' will find a new home this season.

U14 Cup: St Michaels 2-0 Clonmel Town - 9th April

The U14 team finished their season on a disappointing note when they were knocked out of the cup by old rivals St Michaels in Tipperary last weekend. An even game was decided by two goals for the home side either side of the half time break. Town tried to rescue the game but couldn't break down a resolute home defence. U11 Cup: Clonmel Town 0-1 Cashel Town - 3rd April

For the second year in a row the U11 team suffered suffered heartbreak in the Tipperary Cup at the hands of Cashel Town when they lost their quarter final tie in Ferryhouse last Saturday. The visitors who had also beaten Town in last season's U10 Cup final will concede that they enjoyed huge fortune in advancing to the semi final. Town dominated from the start but could not find a way through a determined Cashel rearguard and were unlucky to strike the woodwork on no fewer than three occasions in a scoreless first half. The second half continued in the same vein with Town creating all the chances and then substitute Rory Blake scored a breakaway goal with twelve minutes to play to give Cashel a lead they held until the final whistle despite incessant Town pressure.

U13 Cup: Clonmel Town 1-0 St Michaels - 3rd April

This game was another in a long sequence of close battles between two evenly matched teams after which Town advanced to the semi final of the cup in Ferryhouse last Saturday. In a game that was dominated by a very strong breeze Town had the better of the first half and took the lead after only five minutes when Shane Ryan volleyed home at the back post from a Danny Hickey corner kick. However St Michaels gradually got back into the game and Liam Carey was forced to make a wonder save just before half time to ensure that Town maintained their lead at the break. St Michaels thought they had made the breakthrough after ten minutes of the second half but again Carey proved himself the hero when he somehow blocked a close range volley from an unmarked St Michaels attacker. At the other end both Shane Fagan and an impressive Caiqe Silva went close to securing the insurance goal, but a solid Town defence and man of the match Carey ensured that the home team held on for an invaluable victory.

U15 Cup: Cahir Park 0-5 Clonmel Town - 3rd April

Town knew they would have to battle the elements as well as a determined home side in the second half but the whole team rose to the challenge, with Luke Moore and Paul Horan particularly prominent in the wide midfield roles. Celtic's pressure eventually paid off when Emmet Johnson scored with three minutes to play, and Town keeper Emmet Donlan ensured his team's advance to the semi finals with a good save from a last minute free kick.

There were few chances in a lethargic first half although Town keeper Liam Carey had to be alert to keep out a low drive just before the break. Town upped the pace considerably in the second half and Aidan McGrath, Shane Fagan and Danny Hickey were all denied by a combination of good defending and goalkeeping. Town Into The Unknown - 9th Mar

On Sunday we travel to Askeaton to play Desmond league side St Ita's for a place in the semi final of the Munster Junior Cup. This promises to be a tough encounter and we hope that as many of you can make the long journey to Co Limerick, to get behind the sides. We have a few injury worries going into the game, so hopefully some of these will have cleared up by the weekend. Therefore your support is badly needed. Best of luck to Billy, Charlie and all the players. Kick off is at 3pm.

Clonmel Town 0 - 4 Listowel Celtic - 6th Mar

The U13's knew when the draw was made that they would face a tough test in the last 16 of the SFAI Cup as this Listowel Celtic side traveled with a massive reputation. It is however rare that a team's performance exceeds their reputation, but so it proved in the Complex last Saturday. Fielding ten of the Kerry squad for the Kennedy Cup the visitors were superior in every department and try as the Town team did on the day, this tie was a bridge too far for the brave home side. However Town were unlucky not to take an early lead when a great Michael Quinlivan volley from outside the box just cleared the crossbar after four minutes. Six minutes later the Town defence failed to clear a long throw in and left winger Jamie Stack stole in to volley home from twelve yards. Billy Hewitt could have equalized five minutes later when his effort from 20 yards beat the advancing keeper but rolled wide of the far post. However the visitors took a giant step towards the quarter final with a cracking goal on the stroke of half time. Liverpool bound midfielder Gavin Jacob took a pass from the left wing and struck a piledriver from 25 yards that whistled past Paul Nolan on its way to the top corner of the net. Town started the second half brightly and were beginning to get on top when the visitors made the tie safe when striker Brian Murphy, who is also on his way to Liverpool, raced away from the Town defence and slipped the ball past the advancing Paul Nolan. Murphy rounded it all off with three minutes to go when he broke onto a great pass from Gavin Jacob and drilled the ball home from the edge of the box. The home side were obviously demoralized at the end, but need to regroup quickly as they now go back to domestic action where they are well positioned to mount a strong challenge for league honours.

Town Win With Last Gasp Winner - 5th Mar

The B team kept up their hunt for more silverware with a 6-0 drubbing of Doon Utd in the quarter final of the Peter O'Reilly Cup. A hatrick from John Mullins, two from Decky O'Brien and one from the boot of the legend Johnny Harvey sealed an easy victory in the Complex. Match report to follow.

Town On Top In Derby - 27th Feb

Our 100% record remained intact but only just as we struggled to an unconvincing 2-1 at home to Clonmel Celtic last Sunday morning. In truth it was a victory that we scarcely deserved but it did show once again the great battling qualities of our team. We didn't create to many clear cut chances in the first half, indeed an Ian Barnes free kick in the 25th minute was our first real effort on goal. In the 35th minute our defence went to sleep as Celtic took a quick free kick. Wayne Gartland crossed for Paul Kennedy to head home at the near post. This goal gave Celtic a deserved half time lead. We did start the second half with a bit more urgency and did start to ask a few questions of the Celtic defence. However ten minutes into the half, we failed to clear our lines and Andrew Cosgrave saw his stunning 25 yard shot come back off the crossbar. This was a major let off for Town. In the 58th minute Tony Davis saw his header from a Ian Barnes corner cleared off the line. Five minutes later Town were level. Tony Scully's in swinging corner, was headed home by Alan Coady. For the next five minutes, Town did have Celtic on the back foot but were unable to create any chances, this was die to the fact that the final pass was not good enough. In the 70th minute an Ian Barnes corner beat everybody but there was nobody on hand to head the ball to the net. Two minutes later, some sloppy defending allowed Andrew Cosgrave another shot on goal, but once again his 25 yard pile driver was tipped onto the crossbar by Liam Sparks. With fifteen minutes remaining, Town scored the winning goal. Once again a Tony Scully corner caused panic and Dwayne "Rooney" Burns was on hand to flick the ball to the net. It was a very clever finish. We had to endure a few scary moments before the final whistle. This win moves back to the top of the Premier Division and keeps our push for a third title in a row on track. It wasn't a good performance but credit must go to the players for digging out this result. Well done to Billy, Charlie and all the players.

B's Crowned Champions - 27th Feb

Our B team won the 3rd Division title last Sunday morning securing the solitary point that they needed. John Mullins opened their account on 10 minutes with a fine finish following his sublime first touch past the oncoming defender. Declan O'Brien made it 2-0 to Town having being taken down in the penalty area following a goal mouth scramble for what they thought was an unassailable lead. Unfortunately they rested on their laurels and just before half time they conceded a sloppy goal from a cross which gave Clerihan a lifeline going in at the break. Clerihan to their credit fought tooth and nail and were awarded a dubious penalty when Raymond Boyle was adjudged to have taken down a Clerihan striker and they were awarded the 2nd penalty of the game. Boyle was then sent to the line and the Town sub keeper Jason Delahunty unfortunately was unable to stop the fine strike from the spot from Clerihans Fergal Condon. With Town down to 10 men it was always going to be a tough battle and with just 20 minutes to go Barry Kiely latched onto a long clearance from the defence and he nipped in to tuck it past the Clerihan goalkeeper. Town were still on the ropes and things went from bad to worse as they conceded another penalty much to their amazement, again Condon made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-3. Town held on in the end for s deserved draw, they would feel aggrieved following some decisions that went against them and fully deserved to capture their 3rd Division title. Well done to Glen and his players.

U12 Maintain 100% Record - 27th Feb

The U12's maintained their 100% record in the league with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Cahir Park in Ferryhouse last Saturday. On a cold and blustery morning Town found a very organized Cahir defence difficult to break down in the first half with the best chances falling to Eoin Fitzgerald and Seamus Kennedy who were both denied by great defending by the Cahir rearguard. The breakthrough came 10 minutes into the second half through a Michael Quinlivan shot from twelve yards after good work from Colman Kennedy down the left. Town doubled their lead with seven minutes left when once again Michael Quinlivan was on hand to score with a left foot drive after Ian Fahey and Levi Whelan had created the opening.

U14 Defeated Yet Again - 27th Feb

Nothing seems to go right for the U14 team as they lost their third match in a row when the went down by the odd goal in three to Cahir Park in Ferryhouse last Saturday. Town enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and it was against the run of play when Cahir scored after fifteen minutes. Just before the break the visitors doubled their lead when a Cahir attacker scored with a free header from a corner. In fairness Town came out fighting in the second half and when Mark Power reduced the deficit after ten minutes it was the home side who looked as if they could win the game. However Cahir regrouped and though Town threw everything at the visitor's defence the equalizer wouldn't come and now Town need to re-organise for the forthcoming Tipperary Cup campaign.

Provincial Draws - 19th Feb

Town will now face St Ita's of the Desmond League in the Quarter Final of the Munster Junior Cup and in the Munster Senior Cup they will take on Kinsale who defeated Tralee Dynamos. Dates are still to be fixed for these ties.

Munster Match Report - 19th Feb

Clonmel Town had to come from behind and rely on extra-time to eventually beat North Tipperary & District League Nenagh Celtic in the Munster Junior Cup at the Technical Grounds, Nenagh today 19 Feb 2006. This local derby between the North and South Tipp champions served up a real thriller with Nenagh Celtic hoping to gain revenge for their FAI Junior Cup exit at the hands of the same opposition and it was looking good when Jimmy Hynes headed them in front after 58 minutes, but this Clonmel Town side refused to throw in the towel and in a dramatic finale came back to secure their place in the last eight. Right on the stroke of normal time a long ball by Paul Shanahan found Ian Barnes who beat the advancing keeper to equalise. Then into the second period of extra-time Clonmel Town continued their remarkable run this season of still having to lose a game when Robbie Boland got the winner.

Town Snatch Victory - 19th Feb

Clonmel Town completed a smash and grab in the 5th round of the Munster Junior Cup in Nenagh on Sunday afternoon. Town owned the ball in the 2st half but were unable to break down the Nenagh Celtic rearguard and they then fell behind 1-0. Ian Barnes then equalised on the stroke of fulltime to save their unbeaten run.Thankfully Robbie Boland sealed victory with a goal in the 2nd half of extra time to see them through to the quarter finals of the competition for the 4th sucessive year.

Nationalist Preview - 17th Feb

Twice winners Clonmel Town will be hoping to make it twenty three wins from twenty three this season as they travel to take on North Tipperary & District League's Nenagh Celtic at the Technical Grounds, Nenagh on Sunday, kicking off at 2.30 p.m. This indeed should be a fascinating tie with Nenagh Celtic seeking revenge for their FAI Junior Cup exit to Clonmel Town this season so there should be plenty of fire and passion. If it is anything like that tie that Clonmel Town were 2-1 winners with a late goal those that attend can expect another mouth watering confrontation. This is an ideal opportunity for North Tipp football to show that they can compete with the best and on the form that Clonmel Town are in at present they must be regarded as one if not the best in the country. If Nenagh Celtic get stuck in from the kick-off as they did in Clonmel it will not be an easy ride for Town. Celtic are the top side in the NTDL in recent seasons and nothing would be more enjoyable in their eyes than to bring the might of Clonmel Town to their knees and show that NTDL shouldn't always have to play second best to their South Tipp neighbours. It's hard to see Clonmel Town losing this tie as they have strength in depth and even though a new keeper Liam Sparks will make his Munster Junior Cup debut there are enough experienced players around him to give him the confidence to pull through this one. With important games coming up in the FAI Junior Cup, Munster Senior and Junior Cups plus domestic competitions it is hoped that they can keep this remarkable run going.

Munster Preview - 16th Feb

The big games keep on coming and next Sunday we travel to play Nenagh Celtic for a place in the last eight of the Munster Junior Cup. Both sides are well used to meeting one another and games are always very tight. We played Nenagh at home earlier in the season in the FAI Junior Cup and we managed to squeeze out a 2-1 victory. Last season at the same stage in this competition we managed another tight win up in Nenagh. Next Sunday is going to be a difficult assignment but one that hopefully we can get over. Therefore If you can at all, please try and travel to Nenagh to get behind the lads. Your support is always appreciated. Best of luck to Billy, Charlie and all the players.

The U14 team suffered another defeat in their quest for league honours when they went under to a more committed St Michaels side in Tipperary last Saturday. St Michaels played the more committed in the first half and deservedly lead through two headed goals at half time. Town were better in the second half and pulled a goal back through Damien McCarthy with 15 minutes left but couldn't force the equalizer. With this team now out of contention for wining the league the squad can now focus on trying to retain the Tipperary Cup which they won as U13's last season.

U13 SFAI Cup - 13th Feb

There was major disappointment when news came through late on Friday night that the U13 SFAI Cup match was not going ahead on Saturday. This was due to an administrative mix up over the date for the match, which in this day and age is really not good enough. However the match is now scheduled to go ahead next Saturday at 2pm in the Complex.

FAI Junior Cup Quarter Final Draw - 12th Feb

Clonmel Town were also be delighted with their Statoil FAI Junior Cup quarter-finals draw with a 'home' draw at the Sports Complex taking on either Castlebar Celtic or Neilstown Rangers (Dublin). There is alot of history between Clonmel Town and Neilstown Rangers. Everyone should remember back to '94 when Town defeated Neilstown in the FAI 7th round 2-1 when goals from Brendan Walsh and Paul Scully sealed victory and also in 2001 when they defeated them 3-0 in Dublin in the Quarter Finals.

Town Advance In Senior Cup - 12th Feb

Clonmel Town defeated Munster Senior League Carrigaline Utd by 2-0 to reach the last eight of the Lucozade Sport Munster Senior Cup despite making six changes from the side that beat Old Bridge the previous Sunday. Given a number of fringe players a chance saw Town get the breakthrough after 10 minutes when the Cork defence unhinged by a long throw-in from Darren Burns that saw Tony Scully head home. Although Liam Sparks making his debut in the Town had little to do through this tie the insurance goal didn't arrive until six minutes from the end when Tony Scully whipped in an inch perfect centre that saw the diving Ian Barnes head home. In the last eight it see Town facing a possible trip to Tralee for rematch with the local Dynamos side whom they beat in an earlier round of the FAI Junior Cup.

U12's Make Exit From National Cup - 7th Feb

The U12 team made their exit from the National Cup after a heroic performance against DDSL giants Cherry Orchard in Ballyfermot last Saturday. In the end, the bigger and more physical home team advanced with a freak goal in the first period of extra time, but what a performance by the Clonmel boys. With Seamus Kennedy, Harry Murphy and Ashley Keane in top form in defence, man of the match Michael Quinlivan outstanding in midfield and Eoin Fitzgerald and Aidan McGrath battling for everything up front the Town team refused to be intimidated by their bigger opponents, but couldn't find a way through a very powerful Cherry Orchard rearguard. At the other end Evan Comerford dealt capably with the few long range shots that were afforded to the much vaunted attackers of the DDSL side and the game finished scoreless after regulation time. However with five minutes left in the first period of extra time the home side got what proved to be the winner, when striker Stuart Thompson's misplaced cross from the right looped into the Town net at the far post giving keeper Comerford no chance. Town threw everything into attack but couldn't find an equalizer and it was a very relieved home team who advance to a last sixteen meeting with Home Farm. Town can take great heart from a wonderful cup run and now look forward to trying to add the U12 League and Cup double to those already secured at U10 and U11 level by this team.

U15's Defeat Cahir - 7th Feb

The U15s made it four wins on the trot in the league when they scored a decisive 5-2 win over Cahir Park last Saturday. David McGrath opened the scoring after seven minutes with a clever finish before Gavin Fraher cracked in a second from a twenty yard free kick ten minutes later. Town ensured the points were theirs when Shane Heffernan scored the goal of the game just before half time when he finished off an excellent move involving Fraher and McGrath. Town extended their lead early in the second half with David McGrath's second and a fine finish from Mark Power, before a gallant Cahir side availed of poor Town defending to score twice late on.

U11's Continue Good Start - 7th Feb

The U11's made it two wins from two matches played in the league when they eventually got the better of a game Cahir Park side in Ferryhouse last Saturday 5-0. There were few chances in an even first half with both defences well on top and both teams were happy to see the game scoreless at the brak. However Town dominated form the start of the second half and took the lead after three minutes when a long ball from Thomas Keaveney was headed down by a Cahir defender to the feet of Keith Browne who shot low to the keeper's right. Two minutes later and the lead was doubled when James Murphy and Paraic Louram combined for Murphy to slip the ball past the advancing keeper. Goal number three was the best of the game, when the excellent Gregory Henry and James Murphy combined to set up Jonathan Yates who cleverly beat his man before cracking an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. Town wrapped up the three points in the last five minutes when both Eoin Lynch and Conor Tobin scored from close range. Credit must go to Cahir Park who never gave up and tried very hard to get back into the match in the later stages.

Derby Preview - 2nd Feb (Article From Official FAI Website)

The day of reckoning is fast approaching for Old Bridge FC and Clonmel Town FC as they prepare for a classic cup clash in the FAI Statoil Junior Cup on Sunday. This is a local derby in the true sense for Old Bridge as they are also based in Clonmel town and both sets of players will know all there is to know about their opponents. Said Anthony, Hon. Secretary of Old Bridge and assistant manager to the team, "Clonmel would have some players who played with Old Bridge and vice versa, that's the way it is. "The rivalry is always very keen on the pitch but relations between the two clubs are first-class." Old Bridge have never won the FAI Cup, unlike their more senior rivals, Clonmel Town, but they have shown good form this season. They went as far as the semi-finals of the competition in 1981/'82 when they were beaten by St. Theresa's of Dublin and they are looking forward to Sunday's derby match. "Clonmel will be red hot favourites" said Anthony, "but we believe we have a fair chance. We beat a good team in St. Kevin's Boys of Dublin 2-1 two weeks ago and if we play as well again we believe we can take them." They will face a Clonmel Town team that has shown sparkling form this season - played 21 matches in all competitions, won 21. They are currently five points ahead of St. Michael's in the Premier Division of the Tipperary South and District League and are also still challenging for the Munster Senior Cup, the Munster Junior Cup and the Tipperary Cup. Clonmel Hon. Secretary Tony Scully said: "We entered five competitions at the start of the season and we're still going in all five. We've lots of games and our players seem to thrive on it." Tony rates their win over Tralee Dynamoes by 1-0 in the previous round of the FAI Junior Cup one of their best results this season. "It was our first match in four weeks and we were a bit rusty" he said, " Tralee were the best team we have played in the competition and it needed a great goal from Ian Barnes from 25 yards to win it for us." Clonmel beat Newcastlewest 3-1 in the Munster Junior Cup last week-end and they will soon face Carrigaline United in the MSC and Nenagh Celtic in the 5th round of the MJC. Old Bridge showed they are just as effective away from home when they beat Passage United of Cork in the Munster Junior Cup recently. They are currently four points behind leaders Rosegreen in their division of the TS and D League and have games in hand because of their cup exploits. They are managed by Brendan Ryan, a brother of the Hon. Secretary and their nephew, Emmet Ryan is their top scorer this season. Other prominent players with them include Paul Ryan, Noel O'Brien, Jodie Cunningham and Noel Walsh but Anthony said: "The strength of Old Bridge is their team-work and every player is equally important in that regard. They all contribute and they need to contribute if we are to advance." Clonmel Town won the FAI Junior Cup in 1994 and Ollie Cahill was in the team. He signed for Northampton Town immediately after that final and later played for Cork City and, currently, Shelbourne. Their joint managers are Charlie McGeever and local man Billy Lambe. McGeever
